What is Laminate Flooring?

Laminate flooring has been gaining more and more popularity in the industry due to versatility and affordability. But many wonder what exactly is laminate flooring? How is it constructed and what benefits does it provide over other flooring options? Coastal Flooring & Design Center will go over all of that and more here!

What Is Laminate Flooring Made Of?

Similar to Luxury Vinyl Tile, laminate flooring is constructed with a multi-layered structure. It starts with the the Back Layer which protects the floor form moisture and give the floor more support. It is then followed by the Core Layer which is the high-density fiberboard that gives the floor its durability. After that is the Photographic Layer or Design Layer, where you print the desired look onto. Finally, a Wear Layer to protect the surface from water, stains, and daily use! With all of these layers combined it creates a sturdy and durable flooring option that can be used in high-traffic areas like hallways or living rooms.

Laminate As An Alternative

Laminate is a great alternative flooring option for Tile or Hardwood. Hardwood especially is generally a big investment and requires you to be very careful when moisture is concerned. In comparison laminate can have the same design and look for only a fraction of the cost. This makes it a fantastic choice for those who are working with a tighter budget. It also is generally a bit more water resistant and has much lower maintenance requirements compared to these flooring options. This makes it a great choice for homes with kids or pets running around.

How To Maintain Laminate Flooring?

It is fairly simple to maintain your laminate flooring. It only requires a bit of regular sweeping and mopping to keep its look fresh and new. If you notice any stains it is best to not use anything acidic to try and remove the stain. While many homemade solutions recommend a vinegar cleaning solution we highly advise against it as it can damage the surface is applied to liberally. You’ll want to follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions to ensure that the stain is removed properly and not damage the surface of your floor.
